Personal Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education

At Elizabeth Woodville Primary School, we pride ourselves on a whole school approach to promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical developments of our pupils. Recent studies show that education and health are very closely linked. So promoting the health and wellbeing of all pupils within school has the potential to improve their educational outcomes, along with preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

Our Aims and Values for Personal Development and Wellbeing are:

  • Develop lively enquiring minds and a spirit of curiosity
  • Have high self-esteem through respect for themselves, others and the environment
  • Communicate effectively
  • Develop a strong awareness of their own health and well-being

Relationships and Health education

As part of the school’s Personal, Social and Health Education programme, your Year 6 child will receive a unit of lessons on relationships, sexual health and personal safety.

The purpose of the unit is to provide knowledge and understanding of safe and healthy relationships based on love and respect. This is to encourage the eventual development of safe and healthy relationships in later life.

All of the resources used are recommended by the Sex Education Forum and Leicestershire Healthy Schools. More information, including parents FAQ’s can be found on their website http://www.sexeducationforum.org.uk/

Below is our school policy, giving further information about the unit along with links to some helpful resources. If you have any concerns about the unit then please feel free to discuss these with the class teacher.
