Primary School PE and Sport Mission Statement

We at Elizabeth Woodville Primary School wish to provide the best PE and sport provision possible. We aim to deliver a programme of high quality lessons and to provide a pathway to participation that will enable all pupils to build their confidence and achieve their full potential.

Primary School PE and Sport Funding

The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport will be allocated to primary school headteachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools.

Eligible schools

Funding for schools will be calculated by reference to the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11), as recorded in the annual schools census in January.

Purpose of funding

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Please see the attached report for details on how the PE and School Sport Premium is allocated at Elizabeth Woodville.

PE Case Study

We were proud to be selected by Leicestershire and Rutland Sport (LRS) to be a case study school for their recently published advocacy document: ‘Improving the health and wellbeing of our primary age children: Delivering a high quality physical education, school sport and physical activity across Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland.’

The advocacy document is a celebration of exemplary practice in PE and School Sport and it is wonderful for the school’s excellent work in this field to be recognised. A statement from LRS said, “This advocacy document highlights some of the fantastic best practice currently taking place in our schools.” We support the LRS vision and our approach ensures that all pupils at Elizabeth Woodville enjoy a wide range of sporting and physical activities which are of the highest quality. As a result of consistently outstanding teaching and learning, our pupils achieve highly in all areas of PE.
